CARMEL VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL

Absences due to illness, bereavement, or court appearances must be excused by a parent or guardian within twenty-four hours. It is expected that medical and dental appointments will be scheduled during non-school hours. Extended illness, three or more days in length, must be verified by a physician. All unexcused absences and/or tardies will result in placement by the principal in additional afternoon sessions and are subject to the following:

1 Unexcused Absence - The school will hold a phone conference with the student's parent or guardian conveying the importance of regular school attendance.

2 Unexcused Absences - The school will notify the student's parent or guardian, by first-class mail, that a potential truancy problem may be developing and request a meeting to discuss solutions and possible alternatives.

 

3 Unexcused Absences - The school will notify the student's parent or guardian, by first-class mail, that the student is considered truant according to Education Code Section 48260 and request a meeting to discuss solutions and possible alternatives. The school will send the first declaration of truancy to the District Attorney.

4 Unexcused Absences - The school will notify the student's parent or guardian, by first-class mail, that the student is again considered truant according to Education Code Section 48260 and may be referred to a more appropriate educational setting. The school will send the second declaration of truancy to the District Attorney for truancy mediation.
